Introduction
Inkwell is an AI-powered storybook experience created by
Modular. Every page is
written by Gemma 4
with web tools, and illustrated by Flux 2 —
all served on the Modular platform. All information comes from
publicly available web sources and may not be exactly correct —
we're happy to correct any story.
How it works
Paste any company's website and Inkwell crafts a 5–12 page founder
story — vision research, founder photos, brand palette, and tone all
baked into the prose and the art. Each page streams in as you read,
so no two stories are quite the same. At the final page you can fork
the narrative into a speculative future, share it in a single tap,
or remix it into a fresh visual style.
Technology
Inkwell showcases what's possible when large language models and
image-generation models run side by side on optimized infrastructure.
Under the hood it uses:
- Gemma 4 31B for narrative generation
- Flux 2 Dev — a 32B-parameter image model (with a 9B Flux 2 Klein fallback) for real-time illustration
- Modular Cloud for high-throughput model serving
- Cloudflare for global delivery — the frontend, API, and image
cache all run on Cloudflare's edge
- Modular powered much of the code that built this app
How we made it
Inkwell was built almost entirely with AI. The full stack — Python
backend, TypeScript edge worker, React frontend — was authored in
collaboration with AI pair programmers across multiple frontier
coding tools, with Modular powering the inference and coding, and
Cloudflare handling the serving.
The inspiration was simple: Tim wanted to showcase the power of
storytelling to his kids.
Created by Tim Davis, with enormous thanks to Eve Weinberg, Bill Welense, Michael Dunn-OConnor and others for their wonderful feedback. Built with Modular. We're hiring!
